Children’s Mission has a close cooperation with several hospitals and health care institutions in the region of Volyn. Since the state funding for different institutions rarely covers all costs, equipping treatment wards with bedclothes, hospital beds and other furniture becomes an important part of the work of the Children’s Mission. To make treatment wards more suitable for children, we have equipped a large number of communal areas and departments with cuddly and other toys – something that makes a big difference for the children that are being cared for.
At the regional hospital in Lutsk, Children’s Mission has been able to fund an isolation ward for children that are very sensitive to infections because of serious forms of cancer.
At the sanatorium in Dachny, a publicly financed rehabilitation center for children with disabilities, Children’s Mission is making a big difference by providing material resources. The staff are very professional, but the state funding is often inadequate. Because of this, Children’s Mission has been providing hospital beds, exercise equipment for children with disabilities, toys and other equipment for many years now.
Surgeries and medicine
Children’s Mission helps seriously ill children by financing surgeries or medication that their families could not afford.
A case that has drawn a lot of attention is the one of Ira,born with an aggressively growing tumour that covered almost all of her face and that would have become lethal if not treated. Through several laser surgeries in Sweden today Ira is an active and happy young woman with her life ahead of her.
The personal meeting
Taking time to personally meet with people in difficult situations is an important part of the work of the Children’s Mission. In times of disease and hopelessness, having someone to sit by your side, holding your hand and listening to your story can make a great difference.
If there is a wish and consent, we pray together. Through the years we have met several seriously ill people who have gotten the spark of life and their health back through personal meetings like these.
